Amanda Diva

In the summer of 2001 Amanda Diva burst onto the poetry scene as a spoken word emcee who’s style, an energetic blend of hip-hop and Black history, humor and intensity, strength and intelligence, stood out from the now exploding poetry scene. The honesty of Miss Diva’s work is felt through her combination of a powerful singing voice and a powerful inner voice, which she melds together to create her unique exuberant style of performance. Addressing issues of politics as well as everyday occurrences and headaches that everyone deals with, Amanda Diva puts them in an explosive rhyme format that forces the highest sadiddy to come down to earth, and the most thorough thug to awaken his intellect.

Nola Darling

Harlem Hellfighters by way of East L.A., Forest Hills, Miami, and Haiti. NOLA DARLING’s distinct sound is new school, yet reminiscent of the past; Their tongue in cheek sensibility and innovative sound combined with a unique image make Nola Darling incomparable. "We chant for peace and toast for kicks, rhyme for days and sing like we spit" say Nikkobya and Aziza of their unique style and flavor. Though born on opposite coasts (Nikkobya in Queens, NY and Aziza in Los Angeles), the two girls share a similar world view which they attribute to their progressive upbringing. "Both sets of our parents were pretty socially conscious and forward thinking. We both grew up on everything from Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway, and Ella Fitzgerald to Eddie Palmieri, Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker, and Bad Brains" says Aziza (aka Gidge).

Homeboy Sandman

Homeboy Sandman, (alias Boy Sand, alias Homeboy Hundred, alias Boy De La Croix), born Angel Del Villar II, enjoyed humble yet proud beginnings while coming of age in Elmhurst, Queens. The first generation offspring of Dominican (father) and Puerto Rican (mother) immigrants, he adores Spanish cuisine and women.

An avid fan of DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, Boy Sand began rhyming at the tender age of 9, and since has continued to hone his skills under the tutelage of such masters as Black Thought, Mos Def, Redman, Eminem, and Jay-Z. Boy Sand is often confused as somebody who doesn’t like anything “commercial,” when in actuality he’s just somebody who doesn’t like anything that’s whack. Boy Sand also believes that all of the corny stuff being popularized, as opposed to the dope stuff that would definitely blow up if it was only played on the radio, is part of a larger conspiracy to brainwash the black youth into aspiring to criminality, among other negative things. When Boy Sand says black he means all of us.
