Description

Saxophonist and composer Alex Laurenzi presents his eight-part original suite based on Claude Monet’s eight paintings “The Water Lilies” in the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris. The suite attempts to translate the museum experience of viewing the paintings into sound, drawing on musical influences from composers such as Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Claude Debussy, and Ambrose Akinmusire to name a few. Laurenzi aims to evoke a similarly rich emotional palette in his music as Monet does in his paintings and to allow the listener to experience these emotions through the music on their own terms.

The Sextet features:

Alex Laurenzi alto sax, soprano sax, compositions

Noah Halpern – trumpet

Birsa Chatterjee tenor sax

Joe Blockpiano

Dan Finnbass

Eliza Salemdrums
