Youenn Gwernig on the road

BZH New York association with the support of the Regional Council of Brittany organizes Brittany’s day in May with a special performance of the show Youenn Gwernig on the road, in tribute to the Breton writer who emigrated to New York in the late fifties. A Friend of Jack Kerouac, Youenn Gwernig has written many songs and books in which he evokes his Breton and Celtic identity in the cosmopolitan world of New York.

The band will play differents songs and music of Youenn Gwernig and it consists of Typhaine Corre and Tangi Merien (vocals), Tangi Le Gall-Carré (accordion), Erwan Moal (guitar) and Julien Stévenin (double bass).

War hent Youenn Gwernig (in the Breton Celtic language) is also a play written by Goulc’han Kervella for the Ar Vro Bagan troupe. The album was released in 2021 and is available on all music streaming platforms.”An excellent introduction to the work and life of this Breton folk hero.”

Quote Pieter Wijnstekers in Heaven #4

“Powerful trilingual soundtrack, which I can only recommend.”

Quote Dani Heyvaert in Rootstime

“The guitar – in open tuning – often provides the basic accompaniment, while Le Gall-Carré’s accordion provides the tension, color, and dynamics. Stevenin’s driving bass guitar play is also dynamic. The voices of the two vocalists are sparkling and powerful, both solo and in harmony.”

Quote Marius Roeting in New Folk Sounds.Brittany / Bretagne (in French) / Breizh (in Breton)

It’s an historical country and cultural area in the north-west of France (Europe). Brittany is one of the 6 Celtic nations.
