Description
New Zealand-born bassist and composer Hamish Smith has been hailed as a modern marvel — one of the great young bassists in the world. He has quickly established himself as of the most in-demand bassists on the international jazz scene, and is known for his rhythmic inventiveness and lyrical approach. Since moving to New York, Smith has performed in several of today’s leading ensembles including Paquito D’Rivera, Miguel Zenon, Jonathan Kreisberg, Jochen Rueckert, Dayna Stephens, Yosvany Terry, Rotem Sivan, Henry Hey, Magos Herrera and The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.
His long-awaited debut original album, Elsewhere Now, presents a personal and emotionally resonant collection of ten original compositions, written over the course of the past five years. The music reflects on themes of loss, resilience, transformation and hope. Elsewhere Now will be available everywhere on October 24th via Ropeadope Records.
