Del Mismo Racimo: It’s been five years since brothers Gabriel and Gustavo Martinez and their father Victor released Grietas de Oro, the debut album that solidified Del Mismo Racimo’s place in Puerto Rico’s indie scene. Since then, the trio has taken their genre-blurring, fully live performances across stages in and beyond the island-from MECA Art Fair and Festival Claridad to New York’s LAMC and Festival Color Caribe-bringing with them a sound both rooted and expansive. The band returned with two new singles: “super.posición” (ft. Alegría Rampante) and “enTROPICAL” glimpses into a larger sonic world built for their second LP. That world is tornaSOL. A conceptual album that takes place in the “Baricentro enTROPICAL”: a fictional, psychedelic lounge suspended in Caribbean chaos. It’s a place of layered identities where every song asks what it means to belong; to a place, to a person and to yourself. tornaSOL features collaborations with Alegría Rampante, Joe Louis, and Sofía Paola artists who, like the band, have lived in the liminal space between diaspora and home. tornaSOL isn’t just about coming back home, it’s about floating in between.
JUZU: Juzu is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, and filmmaker raised between Queens and Ecuador. His music blends indigenous Andean traditions with the raw energy of New York City. Juzu’s songs are timeless and anthemic, moving fluidly between Latin pop, soul and rock en español. His diverse influences range from Natalia Lafourcade to The Beatles to the traditional music of the Andes. Born Juan Antonio Ordóñez, Juzu is the son of Toño Ordóñez, a singer/songwriter who was active in the Ecuadorian music scene of the 1980’s and 90’s. He proudly carries on his family’s legacy with each new composition and performance, a connection made especially vivid when he plays the quena, a traditional Andean flute.
NIÑO DISCO: Niño Disco is the music project by New York-based Ecuadorian drummer, producer, and aircraft mechanic, Roger Cabrera. With a passion for the 70’s and 80’s dance Disco-Funk grooves of Cerrone and Dabeull, synth-soaked sounds of early Giorgio Moroder and the electro-pop energy of CLUBZ and Poolside, often backed by a big ensemble sound, Niño Disco aims to bring a tropical disco feel to the dance floor.
