Description
One of the leading voices in modern jazz guitar, Mike Stern is known for his electrifying blend of bebop, rock, and blues. A multiple Grammy nominee, Stern first rose to prominence in the early 1980s as a key member of Miles Davis’ celebrated comeback band, and went on to perform with legends like Jaco Pastorius, Billy Cobham, the Brecker Brothers, and Steps Ahead.
Over the course of his career, Stern has released more than 18 albums as a leader, earning critical acclaim for his virtuosic technique, emotional depth, and genre-defying sound. His music draws on a wide range of influences—from Jim Hall and Wes Montgomery to Jimi Hendrix and B.B. King—creating a style that is both sophisticated and fiercely expressive.
Stern’s recent albums include Trip, a triumphant return after a serious hand injury, and Eleven, a groove-forward collaboration with keyboardist Jeff Lorber and bassist Jimmy Haslip. Honored with the Miles Davis Award at the Montreal Jazz Festival and Guitar Player magazine’s Certified Legend Award, Stern continues to inspire generations of musicians with his powerful presence and boundary-pushing artistry.
