Pericles Kanaris was born in Athens, Greece where he began his study of classical piano at an early age. Earning a degree from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Kanaris has had an incredibly successful musical career. In June 2022, he returned to live performances for the first time after the pandemic with a concert at New York’s Symphony Space entitled “Up For Air”. The concert was broadcasted around the world, making history as the first ever music performance of a Greek artist of the Diaspora to be covered by National Public Television. In 2026, he is expected to record and present in its entirety his new work, NAFTODIA. It is an ode to Greek seamanship, based on new poems set to music using the verses of important Greek poets, as well as experiential lyrics written by people who belong to the Greek maritime “family.” Part of the work was presented in Kastellorizo, Syros and Andros with great reviews in the summer of 2025.
