RANA FARHAN
Rana Farhan is an Iranian artist whose cool, bluesy style transcends time and erases borders, captivating listeners worldwide. With each new release, Rana redefines a genre that feels entirely her own.
Born in Iran, Rana grew up devouring any albums she could find, developing a deep appreciation for American blues legends like Odetta and Leadbelly while rocking out to Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. After graduating from Tehran University, she left Iran and landed in New York City, where she explored her artistic talents in lacquer painting and soaked in the sounds of Manhattan — especially the vibrant Harlem jazz scene that sparked her passion for jazz.
In New York, Rana teamed up with guitarist and producer Steven Toub to create her first full-length album, The Blues Are Brewin’, a collection of American jazz and blues standards. But it was her second release, I Return, that set the world on fire. This groundbreaking album fused classical Persian poetry with contemporary blues and jazz, forging a sound that resonated deeply with listeners across cultures.
The turning point came with Rumi’s Prayer, a track that Rana and Toub released online. The response was overwhelming, with fans across the globe drawn to the seamless blend of Rumi’s mystic verses and Rana’s soulful, blues-drenched delivery. This demand led the duo to craft an entire album inspired by the poetry of Rumi and Hafez, creating one of the most sensitive and profound cultural fusions in modern music.
Rana’s rising virtual popularity in Iran caught the attention of acclaimed filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi, who featured her in his award-winning film, No One Knows About Persian Cats. Ghobadi praised Rana as a vital figure in Iranian music, saying, “Like a needle and thread, Rana stitches East and West together through her music.”
HER NEW ALBUM: PERSIAN SOUL
Rana continues to push boundaries with her latest album, Persian Soul, released on March 28, 2025. This new 10-track collection returns to the poetry of Rumi, weaving his timeless words into original compositions that blend blues, soul, and Persian influences in Rana’s signature style. With Persian Soul, she invites listeners on a fresh journey through love, longing, and transcendence — a testament to her ever-evolving artistry and fearless genre-defying spirit.
“Seductive, exotic, and absolutely gorgeous, this Persian born artist’s voice could melt a blizzard.”
