Description
A mid 70’s-80’s New Wave–Reggae-Rock band from Istanbul, White Cheese received their first major recognition in 1979, appeared on TRT in Izzet Öz’s program
Sihirli Lamba (Genie’s Lamp) which was viewed by millions (whether they liked it or not!) as that was the only TV station then!
The band played their original music and despite some criticism, wrote and sang mostly in English language about pre-1980’s Turkey, terror between the Left and Right, fear, paranoia, polarization. Ironically history repeats itself in different versions in different countries.
In 2015, after some forty years, they got together and made an album titled “Whitewash” which is dedicated to their late bassist “Joe” and since they have been performing in Europe and USA intermittently.
