La Tribu (@latribumusicnyc) is a powerful South American music collective rooted in community, groove, and the joy of shared heritage. Born from a monthly jam among friends, it has grown into a vibrant musical force blending the earthy pulse of Uruguayan candombe with the hypnotic drive of Argentina’s chacarera.
In 2025, the group recorded its first EP, featuring two original compositions alongside a fresh rendition of a tango-candombe by Juan Carlos Cáceres. A project that captures both their contemporary voice and deep respect for tradition.
Our performances are a high-energy celebration of rhythm, connection, and shared musical roots. The ensemble features:
- Two bass players (electric & upright)
- Piano, guitar, saxophone, trumpet
- A full Uruguayan cuerda (traditional candombe drum section)
- A rotating guest vocalist adding soulful, expressive flair.
What began as a casual gathering quickly evolved into a space for cultural expression and musical communion. At its core, La Tribu is about home, reclaiming, celebrating, and reimagining the music that raised us.
