Description

9pm – The Mommyheads

A leading light in the mid-1990s indie rock scene, the Mommyheads formed in 1987 and quickly became a presence at the famous CBGB’s in NYC. With 14 full-length releases all charting high in the Top 100 of College and Community radio and hundreds of shows under their belts, the band will release their 15th LP Coney Island Kid on Sept 20th. Their recent output has also garnered glowing reviews; Relix proclaiming “the Mommyheads are the Godfathers of Baroque Prog Pop” and Stereo Embers boasting “they are more creatively alive then they’ve ever been”.

8pm – Per Sunding from Eggstone

Per Sunding, lead vocalist and bass player from Swedish pop outfit Eggstone will play the group’s music for the first time ever in the USA, backed by members of The Mommyheads, The Apples in Stereo, and the B-52s. In addition, Per is also the founder of Tambourine Studios, which produced all of the Cardigans records as well as the Hives, Hellacopters, Sainte Etienne, Angela McClusky and Tom Jones to name a few. This may be your only chance to hear the music of Per Sunding from Eggstone which has been described as “a perfect balance of the heart and mind in a pop song”

7pm – Johnny Society

This power trio (fronted by guitarist-pianist-songwriter Kenny Siegal) has been reconnecting strands of ’60s and ’70s pop/rock artists–Beatles, Kinks, Bowie, Queen, early Little Feat–in novel ways since the late 90’s. And they’re still coming up with music that sounds both classic and brand new. Following their success, the NY Times declared “Johnny Society is led by a songwriting machine with a rock star’s voice.” In another glowing review, BabySue Magazine wrote “articulate arrangements support soaring vocal melodies that should affect the minds and souls of listeners everywhere. This is about as good as music gets.”
